What is free, and what does Ply Pro include?

Free, forever: the complete two-player chess clock with every time control (sudden death, increment, delay, multi-stage, byo-yomi, Canadian overtime, the word-game overtime and Sand Duel), silent mode, the talking clock and the classic hourglass. Ply Pro is a single one-time purchase, never a subscription, and adds Round Table for up to eight players, the Walnut & Brass, Bakelite, Tournament LCD and anodized faces, any hourglass length with six sands and three glasses, unlimited saved presets and your full game history. Your first game in every Pro mode is free.

How do I start the clock?

Lay the phone flat between the players. The player who moves second taps their side, which starts their opponent's clock — just like a physical clock. After that, tap your own side to end your move. A touch counts the moment your finger lands, so a quick tap is always enough. To stand the phone beside the board instead, tap Rotate on the bridge before the first move: both times then read upright, like a real clock.

How do I pause, undo or correct a time?

Tap the pause button on the bridge between the two sides. While paused you can undo the last move, and you can touch and hold either side to adjust its time or move count, the way an arbiter would.

What do increment, delay and Bronstein mean?

Increment (Fischer) adds time after each move, so “3 | 2” is three minutes plus two seconds per move. Simple delay waits a few seconds before your time starts counting down each move. Bronstein delay gives back the time you used, up to the delay. Each preset in the App explains itself in plain words.

How does byo-yomi work?

When your main time runs out you enter overtime periods, for example five periods of 30 seconds. Move within a period and it resets; let one run out and you use up the next. Losing the last period ends the game. Ply can count the seconds aloud, in English or Japanese.

How does Round Table work?

Add two to eight players around the dial. Each player's name faces their seat and the current player's segment lights up. Tap the centre of the dial to pass the turn, or touch and hold it to go back one turn; tap a seat for options such as sitting out a round. You can time each turn, give everyone a bank of time for the whole game, or simply track how long everyone takes. Stats at the end show who thought the longest.

How do I use the hourglass?

Open the Glass tab and turn your phone over, or tap Flip. The sand runs in real time and follows the tilt of the phone; tap the glass to pause it.

Will the screen turn off during a game?

No. While a game is running the screen stays on, and a running clock also appears on your Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

How do I restore my purchase or share it with my family?

Open Settings inside the App and tap Restore Purchases, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with. Ply Pro supports Family Sharing: members of your Family Sharing group get it automatically once purchase sharing is on.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Ply works entirely offline. Only the App Store parts — showing Pro's price, buying it and restoring it — go online, through iOS.

How do I delete my game history?

Open Settings → History. Swipe a game to delete it, or tap Delete all. Nothing is stored anywhere else. See the Privacy Policy.
